Leslie Geissler Munger is the Illinois State Comptroller, watching over taxpayer dollars and serving as an independent voice of fiscal responsibility and common sense in state government. Sworn into office on January 12, 2015, Munger is working to make our government more transparent, efficient and affordable. In her first six months in office, she enacted efficiencies and cost saving measures that allowed her to cut her office budget by 10 percent, returning more than $2 million to taxpayers. At the same time, she led efforts to take a more responsible approach to finances throughout state government, championing long-term budgeting and common sense efficiencies like combining the offices of Comptroller and Treasurer to save $12 million annually.

Leslie has put her extensive business experience to use as Comptroller, advocating for reforms to make Illinois more competitive and attract good jobs, ultimately expanding the state’s tax base through economic growth.

Leslie is a longtime volunteer and leader for the Riverside Foundation, a nonprofit residential facility for developmentally-disabled adults in Lincolnshire, earning the distinction of Volunteer of the Year in 2013. Through that experience, she knows firsthand the difficulty that state payment delays cause social service agencies. As Comptroller, she has expedited payments for nonprofits serving our most vulnerable residents to ensure that they can continue operations despite the state’s multi-million bill backlog. She also has raised awareness of the importance of Illinois balancing its budget so that it can live up to its obligations to fund nonprofits and other critical services.
