2016 was an exciting year for politics on the national, state and local level.  After a turbulent campaign, Donald J. Trump emerged as the 45^th president of the United States.  It will long be remembered as an election where the American people took back their country from the Progressive Movement and began to chart a course toward greatness again.  The Trump campaign theme; Make America Great Again, resonated throughout communities across the United States and those who believed this dark horse of a candidate would wither away as time went on, were stunned and speechless as the returns came in on that epic night in early November. Who will forget the excitement as we heard the results in key swing states such as Florida, Virginia and Ohio?  Did your heart flutter with joy and hope when the Big Blue Wall was broken and began to crumble starting with Wisconsin?

Whether you like Donald Trump on a personal level or not, one cannot deny the opportunity America has with his election to the presidency.  Our sacred Constitution is, once again, the centerpiece of our government and it is our charge to ensure no one person, political party or foreign entity abuses and tramples on our Divine Rights again. 

At the state and local level, we sent Illinois state legislator Darin LaHood to the United States Congress as the 18^th District Representative.  Congressman LaHood has much to do as the general election of 2016 gave Republicans control over all three legislative bodies in Washington and the agenda is intense.  Repealing and replacing the Affordable Health Care Act, controlling immigration, retooling our education system, creating a business climate for healthy job growth and spurring the economic engine of this nation are just a few of the issues awaiting Rep. LaHood.

In central Illinois, we saw three Republicans defeat their liberal opponents and take their seats in local government.  Shelley Hranka handily won her election as Tazewell County Auditor, Jay Hall and Mike Godar took seats on the Tazewell County Board representing Districts 1 & 3, respectively.

2016 was a very active year for the Tazewell County Republican Central Committee as well.  The following are activity highlights of our past year;

• In March, a Meet & Greet was held at The Farmhouse in Delavan and was hosted by Curt Franks. 
• The GOP began formal Precinct Committeeman training at GOP headquarters in Pekin.  
• On March 4^th, the Lincoln Day Dinner was held at the Embassy Suites in East Peoria as 300 guests listened to featured speaker, U.S. House Representative Jim Jordon, Chairman of the House Freedom Caucus.
• A successful Mayors & Leaders event was hosted by Mackinaw Mayor Greg Friend at Haynes on Main in Mackinaw.
• The Rail House in Pekin was the site of the March 15^th election party.
• The popular conservative PolitiChicks appeared at a dinner event hosted by Washington Mayor Gary Manier at Five Points in Washington.
• The GOP kept a busy summer schedule manning merchant’s tents, participating in parades and talking politics with people who attended our county’s great festivals in Washington, Tremont, Morton, Pekin, Hopedale and Delavan.
• Despite a central Illinois ice storm, a nice turnout of guests enjoyed the Tazewell Co. GOP Christmas Open House held on December 16^th at Season’s Gastro Pub in Morton.

With all we accomplished in 2016, there remains much to do in this upcoming year! Mark Your Calendar!

Governor Bruce Rauner will be the honored guest speaker at this year’s 50^th Anniversary Lincoln Day Dinner.  This important event will be April 4, 2017, at the Embassy Suites, 100 East Conference Center Drive, East Peoria.  Cocktails will be at 6:30pm with dinner at 7:30pm.  Tickets are $70 per person. Make plans to attend and send your RSVP to Mary Burress @ 309-241-7563 no later than March 27, 2017.                                                                                                                                                                                   

 

April 4, 2017  Consolidated Election

Please make it a point to vote in the consolidated election on April 4th, 2017.  There are a number of Republican candidates who need your support! You can see a specimen ballot here.  You can see where your polling place is here.
