Dear Tazewell County Republican,
I am pleased that Bobbi Keyser has again offered to host my upcoming fundraising event at her family's beautiful Green Acres retreat on Lakeland Road in Morton. This year, however, we will keenly feel the absence of her late husband, Dave.
As I write these words while sitting and listening to the lakeside sounds after sunset on our screened in porch in Mackinaw, I pause and think about the good people I am privileged to represent in Springfield.
It may surprise you to know that before I cast anyone of hundreds and hundreds of votes in the Illinois House each year, I think above all about how it could affect you and your family.
Would it benefit or hurt you? How would it impact your livelihood and well-being? Does it spend money we don't have? What could the consequences be for our children and grandchildren? Is it fair? Is it the right thing to do?
We are all aware of Illinois' challenges. We all know that Illinois must get back on track, yet the imposition of higher and higher taxes will not solve our problems.
The answer lies in making Illinois more receptive and helpful to job providers. A more business friendly state with lower costs and fewer regulations would bring more jobs. And more jobs will bring the revenue necessary to provide important services.
As I run for re-election in 2018 and seek your support of my campaign, my family and I thank you for your kindness and prayers.
We hope to see you at Green Acres on September 20. Until then, and beyond, may God bless you and yours.
